As we wind our way through October, we get closer and closer to Halloween and I keep digging up some Halloween themed movies to review. Next up is Satan’s Little Helper, a movie I’ve owned for quite some time (I won it during a Halloween costume contest) and I always shoved it off to the side as being a low budget, terrible movie. Was I right in that regard? Read on to find out…

Short nitty-gritty plot description from IMDb is as follows: A naïve young boy unknowingly becomes the pawn of a serial killer.

Here is “Satan” in all his cheap Halloween costume glory.

It’s Halloween in a small coastal town and Douglas (who will be referred to as Dougie from now on), has put on his best Satan’s Little Helper costume, based on the video game of the same name, where you team up with Satan and banish people to hell (sounds like something Rockstar would put out). Dougie is excited to go treat or treating with his hot sister, Jenna, played by Katheryn Winnick, who I’ve only seen in Hellraiser: Hellworld, which I consider to be the worst Hellraiser movie in existence. Jenna arrives home, but brings home a guy she met on a boat ride, Alex, who happens to also be from the same town. Dougie is angry at his sister, as he wanted it to just be her and him, as he absolutely loves her so much and wants to marry her.

I can’t say I fault him, as she is pretty damn hot in her slutty renaissance outfit.

Dougie runs off to be alone and meets a costumed man, who is dressed as Satan and is going about killing people and setting them up as decorations. Dougie believes it to be the real Satan and asks him if he can team up with him and send people to hell. Dougie thinks it all fun and games and not real, but Dougie is also an idiot. In fact, everyone in this movie is an idiot, but I’ll get to that later. Anyway, Dougie and “Satan” have teamed up and the deadly night of shenanigans is about to ensue and the little town will never be the same. Dun dun dunnnn!

Just look at him! Not the sharpest tool in the murder shed.

Satan’s Little Helper is equal parts comedy, horror, bad, good and alright. It’s got a pretty dark comedy streak going through it, with several parts having me laugh at the insanity it’s spewing forth (who knew cats made great paint brushes). “Satan” also provides most of the comedy, with Joshua Annex having a blast under the mask and he offers some great comedic timing. Also, for the horror part, that comes from the overall story of the masked killer, stalking people door to door and for the most part it works well, with the dark humor. Although I should point out, that the movie is filled to the brim with stupid, stupid people. I’m talking, doing some of the dumbest shit possible and just acting like a bunch of buffoons. Plus, I don’t think I’ve seen so much sexuality between a mother and daughter, which had me on the edge of my seat for all the wrong reasons.

This is what “Satan” thinks of people who disagree with this movie’s dark humor.

Satan’s Little Helper is directed by Jeff Lieberman, who had a string of cult classics to his name back in the 70s. Here, he has a small budget and pretty good story idea, but sadly the movie comes across as looking fairly cheap and the acting is sketchy for the most part, minus “Satan”. Still, the dark humor is there and I enjoyed it enough to get a few laughs out of the movie.

Verdict: The movie is low budget, with wonky acting and dumb characters. However, it’s got a great character in “Satan” and some dark, dark humor, which should bring a smile to any fan of the sadistic and “wrong” types of comedy.
