The sequel to the 2010 Sherlock Holmes film is exciting, confusing and at times beautiful looking. One things for sure, it’s a guaranteed 2 hours of fun (unless of course you hated the first one).
Short nitty-gritty plot description from IMDb is as follows::Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson join forces to outwit and bring down their fiercest adversary, Professor Moriarty.
I actually may like this one better than the first one. Jared Harris is exceptional in his role as Professor James Moriarty. He is just so devilish and plays off of Robert Downey Jr’s Sherlock character so well. I could watch these two play chess for two hours and be content with it.
Fans of Rachel McAdams might be disappointed, as her presence in the film is significantly shortened (as in almost nonexistent). To make up for it, you get some hot RDJ drag* scenes and let me tell you, he can pull it off.
I’ve heard some people complaining that they insinuated Sherlock might be gay and he was coming on to Dr. Watson. To that I say
rubbish! I don’t know what film they were watching, but I didn’t see anything of that. Good god people, it’s called humor! Maybe they
accidentally put in Shercock Bones: A Dame of Hoes™*. Okay, yes the great BBC series Sherlock hints at Sherlock Holmes being gay, but that doesn’t mean he is in this movie. (Not that there is anything wrong with that if he was.)
The visuals of the film were outstanding. The scene that takes place in the woods of Germany, was just stunning to watch. You need to see it to believe it. Nice one Guy Ritchie, nice one. Ritchie also directs another stunner involving a train. It’s very well played out, with a good mix of humor and action. (You’ve got a great eye Ritchie. Why you married Madonna we may never know. )
Conclusion time! Do I recommend? Elementary, my dear Watson! Of course I do. Sit back, relax and enjoy the 2-hour ride. A few things may be confusing and trust me you’ll have a couple unanswered questions in the end, which I’m sure will be answered in the inevitable sequel. Nevertheless, it’s a fun, flamboyant, fiery film worth a watch.
Till the next adventure! Huzzah!
